From 1976 to 1997, I worked for a NFP agency in Corning, NY that was initially incorporated as Tri-County Action Council (TCAC). I served as Executive Director of the agency from 1979 to 1997. During my first few years with TCAC, we were a sponsoring agency for many VISTA volunteers in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben Counties in New York State. I often think of the many volunteers I interacted with while at TCAC and would love to make contact with any who are registered on the VISTA Campus.
During my tenure with TCAC, we changed our name to Tri County Housing Council (TCHC) as the agency’s sole mission was providing housing services and program. About 10 years ago, TCHC merged with Arbor Development, another NFP serving in the same region. I am proud to see how that union has resulted in a very dynamic organization that has done much to improve housing conditions for low and moderate income families in the area. I left TCHC in 1997 when I was appointed by former NYS Governor George Pataki to serve as Assistant Commissioner for the NYS Division of Housing and Community (DHCR)…a position I held until I retired in March 2017.
