Who do we work for?

Hey all,

When applying for jobs after VISTA, how do you handle the application piece when it comes to recent employers? Do you put CNCS and your project coordinator? Or your site and site supervisor? It just get complicated when you are trying to show what you do when you have to fill out those little boxes...

Any help would be great!

I would put my site and my most immediate supervisor (because they're the one who can vouch for my work). For my title, I would put "AmeriCorps VISTA [fill in the blank]" where [fill the blank] would be Volunteer Coordinator or Program Assistant or whatever your role inside your organization is. That way, no one can claim you're misrepresenting yourself because all of your affiliations are out in the open but the ones that matter the most to a potential employer are highlighted.

If the potential employer knows what VISTA is: Great! That's going to count in your favor! If not, they'll probably just pay attention to the latter part of your title. If you don't have a title, ask your supervisor to help you come up with one. Maybe even print up some business cards if you're early in your year.
