Lead VISTA for Denver Regional Economic Development

Please note that in order to qualify for this position you must have served either as a VISTA, an AmeriCorps Member or as a Peace Corps Volunteer. The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) VISTA project seeks to increase capacity in economically distressed rural communities to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, and provide a better quality of life. In its third pilot year, this project has scaled to cover five states in the Southwest region and six states in the Denver Region. The selected VISTA Leader will be instrumental in ensuring sustainable program growth, clear communication among stakeholders, the effectiveness of the program, and supporting an engaged team of VISTA Members. The VISTA Leader will be located at a sub-site, the MERAMEC Regional Planning Commission, in St James, Missouri. They will spend time working with the EDA project sponsor, their immediate supervisor, and their regional VISTA peers to expand and build the capacity of the individual VISTA members and their respective service sites. The VISTA Leader will serve as a resource on the VISTA program and for economic development principles (emphasized early in their training) for the VISTA team. It is expected that the VISTA Leader strengthen the training and development of EDA VISTA Members and track the impact of the VISTAs throughout the region. In addition, the VISTA Lead will assist MEREMAC staff to undertake specific planning activities that will impact economic development in the MEREAC region. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.


  • Help create and disseminate recruitment materials for the EDA VISTA program and its sub-sites.

  • Work with sub-sites to identify and engage in strategic recruitment avenue and partners.

  • Work with VISTA Sponsor to develop and disseminate VISTA member orientation materials.

  • Identify and develop ongoing training opportunities to strengthen VISTA member Capacity.

  • Lead forums for the regular exchange of information and ideas to promote peer to peer learning across the VISTA team.

  • Monitor VISTA member progress and economic impact by reviewing monthly reporting.

  • Document VISTA activities and inform sponsors on the progress of projects and program goals.

  • Contribute to the administrative tasks associated with VISTA grants, as needed.

  • Attend regular teleconferences with VISTA Sponsor.

  • Address community and economic development need and improve development opportunities in the MERAMEC region by assisting staff to provide planning assistance in key areas identified in the region's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy.

  • Attend regular sub-site staff meetings and operate as part of the overall team.

  • Build knowledge on issues related to VISTA assignment including the latest economic development resources available.

  • Attend economic development trainings and other relevant training as available.


  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year accredited institution.

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older.

  • Able to work 40-hours a week during service.

  • Experience in coordinating and facilitating training events

VISTA Leader will be provided:

  • Monthly living allowance of $1,142.40.

  • Federal non-competitive status (NCE) for federal government positions.
