Passport Specialist - GS-5 and GS-7

This position is located in the Adjudication Section of the Los Angeles Passport Agency where the incumbent serves on a rotational basis in the Regular Adjudication and Public Application Units. Incumbent receives and examines passport application for completeness and verification of the identity of the application and examines the evidence of citizenship submitted with the application to determine authenticity.

• Receives and examines applications for the issuance, amendment and replacement of passports forwarded by acceptance agents or presented in person by applicants or applicants' representatives.
• Reviews applications for completeness, affirmation of truthfulness, presence and authenticity of required entries, signatures and photographs, and fees.
• Examines evidence of citizenship to determine authenticity and adequacy in relation to required laws, regulations and procedures for the issuance of passports, and to confirm facts as recorded on application.

NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement.

Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.

Applicants applying for the GS-05 must meet one of the qualification requirements listed below:

General Experience:

A. Completion of three years of general experience, one of which was equivalent to the GS-04 level, involving the analysis, explanation, application, or interpretation of laws, rules, regulations, procedures, etc. Qualifying general experience may have been gained as a law clerk, contact representative, claims examiner, voucher examiner, or similar work with a government or private employer.


B. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor's degree.


C. Combination of education and experience.

If you are qualifying based on education, you must submit a copy of your college
transcript with your application, and if selected, an official college transcript will be
required to verify education prior to employment.
Applicants applying for the GS-07 must meet one of the qualification requirements listed below:

A. Completion of at least 1 full year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service) that demonstrated knowledge of the immigration and/or nationality laws of the United States.


B. Completion of 1 full year of graduate level education in law, or other administrative or management fields related to the position.


C. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND you a provision of superior academic achievement


D. Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience

Salary Range: GS-5 $38,586-$50,158; GS-7 $47,797 - $62,138
