The Social Security Administration is seeking job applicants with exceptional customer service skills for a Claims Specialist (CS) position in the Missoula, Montana Social Security field office. This position is an entry level position for SSA’s field offices. Incumbents are responsible for providing direct service to the public. Staff members conduct interviews and adjudicate customer’s claims for retirement, survivors, and disability benefits. Claims Specialists assist beneficiaries establish continuing eligibility for payment, provide assistance with administrative appeals, authorize payment, offer referral services, and identify and investigate potential program abuse. This is a career ladder position with promotion to the GS-11 level after successful completion of agency training, and individual growth and development. Entry level is normally made at the GS-7 or GS-9 level dependent upon individual qualifications. Additional information can be found at

We are looking for U.S. Citizens who are quick learners with good written and oral communication skills, strong customer service skills, and the ability to handle a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelor’s degree. One year of study is defined as 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours.
For GS-7: One full year of graduate level education in a related field OR a Bachelor’s Degree with superior academic achievement in a related field.
For GS-9: Successful completion of a Master's Degree program in a related field.

Salary: $34,916-$52,905 annual
